Bride and Groom Dancing at Wedding - Dinner 4 Two

The First Dance

Your first dance is one that is highly anticipated by you, your fiancé and all your guests; all eyes are upon the two of you. This Dance is the ice breaker that quills emotions and starts the party.

Choosing a first dance song is all about choosing a song that has meaning for you and your fiancé; one that encapsulates your time together and your feelings for your future. This song will be the catalyst to calm your nerves as you embrace each other as Mr & Mrs.

Here are some things to consider as you choose your song…

  1. What tempo suits the two of you best, slow romantic or fast up tempo?
  2. If rhythm isn’t in your partner’s wheel house try choosing a slow song that has a 4/4 beat. These are easier to dance to.
  3. Before you take to the dance floor at your reception try your song choices out in your living room. This way you can both decide what feels most comfortable and allows the two of you to put your best foot forward.
  4. You might want to consider dance lessons. Many couples do this and even get the dance instructor to help them choreograph their first dance. It’s also a great way to sneak in a fun date night.
  5. When considering the possibilities for songs think about the music that has meaning and really connects the two of and instantly makes you think of your fiancé? Was there a song playing during your first kiss or when you got engaged?  Look at your parents and grandparents and if they have happy marriages you might want to throw in some nostalgia and dance to their first dance song.
  6. If you get stuck you can always consult your wedding vendors, especially your band or DJ.
  7. Our last suggestion is to really listen to all the lyrics of your possible song choices. Some songs are about heartache, break ups or even the loss of a loved one.

Do your homework and make sure your song choice expresses the personality and emotion of the two of you. Remember your first dance as Mr. & Mrs. will most likely bring out the

“ah… aren’t they such a beautiful couple and so in love,” from your guests.
